Alocasia watsoniana, commonly known as the “African Mask Plant,” is a tropical houseplant prized for its striking foliage. It belongs to the Alocasia genus, which is known for its dramatic and unique leaf shapes. Alocasia watsoniana features large, arrow-shaped leaves with bold, contrasting veining that resembles a mask or shield, hence its common name.

To care for Alocasia watsoniana:

1. Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch its leaves.

2. Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top inch or so of the soil to dry out between waterings.

3. Humidity: Alocasia watsoniana appreciates high humidity. You can use a humidifier or place a tray filled with water and pebbles near the plant to increase humidity.

4. Temperature: Keep the plant in a warm environment with temperatures above 60°F (15°C). It doesn’t tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C).

5. Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter.

6. Fertilization: Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) every 4-6 weeks, but reduce or stop fertilizing in the winter.
